Bulgogi (Korean Barbecued Beef)

bulgogi

Korean barbecue is so tasty, and not too expensive if you know where to buy the ingredients in Munich.

Luckily, I just happen to have a culinary genius of a boyfriend who is teaching me the tricks of the trade. So, here’s the recipe, and also a list of decent Korean restaurants in Munich for those times when you want tasty food but don’t feel up to cooking it yourself.

Ingredients:

3 tbs soy sauce

1 tbs white sugar

1 tbs sesame oil

1 tbs sesame seeds

3 large spring onions (sliced)

1 onion (sliced)

3 carrots (julienned)

1 courgette (julienned)

500 gms beef (thinly sliced)

grated garlic and ginger

1/2 tbs salt

200 gms white rice

several romaine lettuce leaves

METHOD :

(for 2-3 servings)

  1. Slice beef thinly – one tip for getting  really thin slices is to freeze the meat before cutting it.
  2. Combine  the soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, salt, sugar, onion, spring onions and beef in a plastic sandwich bag and leave to marinate for at least a few hours (overnight is best).
  3. Cook the rice until sticky but tasty and gently saute the courgettes and carrots.
  4. The meat should now be yummy and ready to cook, on a griddle or grill which catches the flavour of the marinade is best.
  5. Once the beef is done you can eat it along with the rice and remaining vegetables, or you can wrap it up in a lettuce leaf like a little parcel. Extremely tasty, and healthy too!
